2016 marks the third edition of Cult’s annual ‘Chairity Project’, the esteemed charity event that invites leading Australian creatives to reinvent an iconic chair design. Each creative is given complete freedom to reinvent the chair, which is exhibited and auctioned off to a charity of the creative’s own choice. The 2016 chair of choice was the Ronan and Erwan Bouroullec-designed Officina chair for Magis.

To re-emphasize the wrought iron frame of the Officina Chair we applied 1300 magnets. Making good use of the chair’s iron physicality while creating volume and presence at the same time. Our intervention with the chair is dynamic and impermanent and can be altered or reversed by its owner to their liking. The magnet’s ancient healing property further underlines and reconnects to the mission of our chosen charity ‘Redkite’ supporting children with cancer.

Invited creatives:
Adam Cornish, Adam Goodrum, Arent+Pyke, bassike, Christopher Boots, Design by Toko, Fiona Lynch Office, Marsha Golemac + Dan Hocking, Mim Design, Mika Utzon-Popov, Olsen Ormandy for Dinosour Designs, Studio Elke, Studio Twocan, Tracey Deep and We Are Triibe
